Temporary Health Insurance in Missouri
Missouri Temporary Health Insurance Plans

There are many factors to consider when looking for Missouri temporary health insurance. One factor would be the cost, and another can be the extent of time that you need temporary health coverage.

There are two sides to look at when considering whether you are saving money on getting temporary health insurance. One side of it is your health condition; do you really need health coverage while you are waiting for a new group health insurance plan, for example, to take you in? People with high health coverage expectations, and these primarily are the people who have preexisting health conditions, may find it more cost-effective to have temporary health insurance in Missouri or if not find a way to extend their previous group health insurance coverage while the new is still on the bench. The other side is the length of time before your new coverage can finally hit the field. Is there too much risk in waiting for three months without any form of health coverage?

Temporary health insurance in Missouri is no more different from the regular health insurance plans when it comes to coverage and cost. Some health insurance companies will offer a package that includes some of the most expensive medical services for a reasonable cost. But just like a regular health insurance plan, restrictions and limitations will apply.

Private health insurance companies are more worried about you getting hospitalized than you do. The whole business is established over the principle of risk management. The greater the risk, the greater the chance of them losing money. This is the reason why finding temporary health insurance in Missouri for people with preexisting health conditions can be quite a challenge.

Health insurance companies will look back as far as 6 months at your medical history to whether you had any health condition which you received any medical service for. They will call it a preexisting medical condition. And with every preexisting condition is a preexisting condition exclusion. This is the period of time wherein coverage for your preexisting condition will be excluded.

Ways of Retaining Health Coverage

It defeats the purpose of having temporary health insurance in Missouri to keep a continuous health coverage without having sufficient benefits for your medical condition. Retaining the coverage by the previous group health insurance plan can be the only option for people with preexisting health conditions.

Retention Method 1: Some employers give their employees the opportunity to keep their group health insurance coverage for a limited period of time. So you can check with your HR to see whether you can do this.

Retention Method 2: You can elect COBRA, if you’re employed in a company with 20 or more employees, or apply for state continuation coverage, if employed in a company with less than 20 employees, to keep your group health insurance plan. This applies to employees who had lost their job no later than 63 days and their dependents. They can keep the same coverage for a maximum of 180 days but it may extend depending on the individual’s health condition. Someone who’s in disability can have it extended for a year or so. Dependents who are no longer qualified for coverage like the legally separated or the new graduate can also elect COBRA. But retaining your group health insurance coverage plan through either COBRA or state continuation coverage will mean you paying for the full premium of the plan.

Retention Method 3: Conversion policy is another method of getting temporary health insurance in Missouri. It’s an individual health insurance plan bought from the private health insurance company which provided your previous group health insurance. This applies to people who had used up their COBRA extension and state continuation coverage and who are not eligible to get another group health insurance plan due to their health condition. Applying for conversion policy must not be later than 3 months after losing your group health insurance coverage.
