Pennsylvania Temporary Health Insurance Plans
Leaving a job means a lot of things. If you were getting health coverage through our company’s group health insurance plan, you might just want to think about it first. Getting temporary health insurance in Pennsylvania after losing a job and your group health insurance plan with it may be the solution to fill the gap in health coverage while you’re still looking for a new job. But there are a few things about temporary health insurance that doesn’t make it a one-size-fit-all solution.
Since the purpose of getting temporary health insurance in Pennsylvania is to have a short-term replacement for your previous group health insurance coverage, you might as well choose a plan that has everything you need in health insurance. The coverage of a basic temporary health insurance may include check-ups and doctor’s office visits, medical exams and diagnosis such as x-ray and MRI, hospitalization due to illness or major injury from an accident, prescription drugs, and other medical and physician services. But unfortunately, this will have a few limitations and will not apply to everyone.
Temporary health insurance in Pennsylvania will only serve fit for people who have minimal or has no expected medical needs. People with preexisting conditions may need to look some place else to find temporary health insurance in Pennsylvania. Private health insurance companies will either refuse or provide limited coverage to someone with a preexisting health condition looking for health insurance. This is due to the high risk involved. And even if someone is accepted to get health insurance despite his health condition, there will still be some terms in the contract that most people would usually frown about.
A preexisting condition exclusion is the period of time wherein a preexisting condition is excluded from getting any coverage. It lasts for no less than 6 months and can be as difficult as 2 years. However, your plan policy has it on paper, preexisting condition exclusions require a lot of patience. And even if you’re already paying the premium, you might still need to take the situation as if you have no health insurance at all. Temporary health insurance in Pennsylvania is not offered to people with preexisting conditions. And it’s not advised either.
There are two effective approach on how to get temporary health insurance in Pennsylvania for people with expensive medical needs. And that is either by converting your previous group health insurance coverage into something that you can keep as long as you want or by retaining your coverage temporarily.
If you and your dependents has at least 3 months of full coverage through your previous employer’s group health insurance pan, you can convert it into an individual health insurance plan that will have everything that you had with your previous coverage and including coverage for your and your dependent’s preexisting condition. Though getting temporary health insurance in Pennsylvania through conversion policy may mean you paying more than your usual premium, it can be no more expensive than 120 percent of the regular cost. And besides, having coverage for all your medical needs is priceless.
COBRA and State Continuation Coverage on the other hand allows employees and their dependents to keep their group health insurance plan for qualifying events such as voluntary or involuntary dismissal from work or loss of dependent status as per plan policies for a limited period of time depending on their needs.
